Reflection
This unit has really opened my eyes on how complicated it is to write poetry. I have learned to respect the process of creating poetry because there are so many different structures for each poem. I think it was good for me to experience writing different types of poetry because it gives me a piece of what actual poet’s experience. It was a challenge for me to create these poems because it takes me a while to come up with good ideas and having to write in a certain pattern made me work much harder. I’m not someone who is descriptive or poetic so this unit was a bit of a challenge for me. As much as I respect the hard working poets, I don’t think I would be interested in writing more poetry.
The poem I enjoyed writing the most was the narrative poem because it didn’t have a particular structure I had to follow. I had the freedom to create anything I wanted without having to write it with a set of rules. The where I’m from poem was probably the easiest poem out of all 6 of the poems I had to write. The structure of the poem was straight forward and I had to do was write about myself.
One poem that was hard for me to write was the structure poem. I decided to talk about stars and what they represent in the shape of the star. I struggled with finding a way of making the text look like a star and I had to add words and take some parts away just so I could create the star. The Sonnet was also another poem that was hard for me especially since I had to write about love. It took me a while to come up with phrases that with 10 syllables that makes sense and to make every other line rhyme. I also struggled with writing about love in general so I really had to think while I was writing this poem.
